The accepted threshold is a BMI of 40 and above, or 35–40 with a comorbidity such as type 2 diabetes, sleep apnoea or hypertension.

If you do not meet it, we will tell you — and we will not perform the operation. Bariatric surgery below threshold is not defensible medicine.

The workup is not paperwork

Endoscopy, bloods, cardiac and pulmonary assessment, dietitian and psychiatric evaluation. Every one of these has changed a surgical plan at some point.

Lifelong follow-up

Vitamin and mineral supplementation and regular blood monitoring are permanent requirements, not optional extras. B12, iron and vitamin D deficiency are the most common problems.

Can I regain weight?

Yes. Surgery reduces the stomach; it does not change habits. Long-term outcome depends on nutritional follow-up.
